  • Reclining Sofa Care

We take great care to design and source high quality furniture, there are a few things for you to consider to keep it looking its best.

    Here are our top tips:

    1. Be aware of the environment. Sunlight, heat sources, pets, humidity, etc. can all affect the performance and longevity of furniture. Selecting the right materials for the right setting will ensure yours is the right fit.
    2. Keep it clean. Light, regular cleaning will increase the lifespan of your furniture.
    3. Protect your floor and protect your furniture with floor protectors, coasters, stain protection etc. Heat and moisture are generally not furniture’s best friend so keep them separate where possible or ensure furniture is protected.
    4. Stay centred. Use the centre of the seat rather than the arms or back of sofas, for example, and don’t lean or rock on chairs and stools.

Our team will always be happy to answer any questions you may have about a particular item.

    DELIVERY & ASSEMBLY

When opening the packaging please take extreme care for personal and product safety. We recommend against the use of blades.

Having unpacked your furniture, check that it is complete and all parts are present. Please note, the feet for certain products may be found in the zip pocket underneath the suite. Ensure all fittings have been removed before disposing of packaging. Ensure children are supervised during unpacking and assembly of furniture and kept away from all hazards.

For ‘self-assembly’ furniture, read the assembly instructions before starting. Identify the parts of your furniture and follow the assembly sequence. Avoid use of force when assembling parts and be careful not to over tighten fittings during assembly. To avoid damage during assembly, use the appropriate tools and work on a surface covered by a protective layer.

    Installing your furniture

If assembling a product on its back or side, take care when turning the product over. Do not put excessive pressure on legs/base when turning as this may damage the structure of the product.

When positioning furniture items please do not drag them. Items should be lifted from the bottom where possible. In rooms with delicate floors, consider additional protection under your furniture e.g. felt pads or glides.

Assembly and installation must be done in accordance with instructions. Failure to follow assembly instructions may result in poor performance of your product and/or void your warranty. If instructions are not followed, we decline any liability in the event of damage caused to people or property because of incorrect installation.

    SOFA CARE & MAINTENANCE

During the journey from factory to your home, crush marks may appear on your sofa but please do not be alarmed, these will naturally work their way out over a few weeks. In the case of a leather sofa, this process can be accelerated with heat from a hair dryer or by placing the sofa in a warm room. Fillings may also have flattened and will need to be plumped up in the same manner you would regularly ‘dress’ your sofa.

The seat cushions on your sofa may appear to be firmer than those you sat on in the showroom, but please be aware that your seat foam will soften with use. Softening of padding and cushions causes light creasing, wrinkling of fabric and slight stretching of the leather which is normal wear. It helps, especially when you first get your sofa, to sit on different parts of the sofa. This ensures even wear across the sofa, more consistent softening and helps your cushions last longer.

As dust and dirt will cause your sofa to wear faster, we recommend vacuuming regularly with an upholstery attachment. Where possible, keep furniture out of direct sunlight and a safe distance from heat source. This will minimise fading, discolouration and excessive dehydration of the covering. Dark colours and natural fibres are most susceptible to fading.

Note that sunscreen and creams, certain medications and chlorine are harmful to any upholstery and can cause discolouration. Dyes that make strong colours in clothing, such as blue denim, can transfer to upholstery. Dye transfer is accelerated by even small amounts of moisture. Both fabric and leather can be affected and paler colours more, so care is required and stain protection worth considering. Also, refrain from leaving newspapers or magazines on furniture. The ink from these items may be transferred.

Avoid sitting on the backs or arms of sofas as this may cause distortion or damage.

It may not be uppermost in your mind, but the filling in your chosen sofa does make a difference. Just as they offer different levels of support, sofas and chairs will require different levels of maintenance depending on the filling. Below you will find our tips to help you to look after your sofa and enjoy it for many years to come.

    • Foam upholstery will feel firm and supportive, the firmer the foam the firmer the sit. It lends a more tailored appearance and will recover well. Over time, the foam will compact and lose volume a little, though this process is much slower with high resilience foam.
    • Fibre wrap. Soft polyester fibre is wrapped around a foam core. The foam provides a good level of support with the fibre giving a soft top layer. It has a more relaxed, casual look and a softer sit. Plump cushions regularly to maintain comfort and minimise flattening. To do this effectively, hit cushions on all sides and, if removable, drop them onto a clean floor to get air back into them.
    • Foam & feather. The core consists of a higher density foam, wrapped with duck or goose feathers. Like fibre, feather has a relaxed, casual look and soft sit. The softness provided by the feather mix requires frequent plumping to maintain appearance and ensure even distribution of the filling. Feathers can also absorb moisture in the air leading to the flatting of fibres. Aeration and warmth to dry out the feathers can improve the feel and performance of the cushion.
    • Pocket Sprung. Pocket springs are in the core of the interior and surrounded by foam. This type of cushion requires minimum maintenance and gives a neat appearance.

    Leather Care Tips

Leather is a natural product can vary in look and appearance, it will stretch and develop ‘comfort creases’ with use. Leather furniture rarely retains its new look, cushions will soften and relax their shape with regular use, making them even more comfortable. This adds to the character of leather over the years. It has natural markings, from variation of shade and tone, healed scars and scratches, to skin ‘stretch marks’ and insect bites. By no means should these be considered a defect; nor will they affect the durability of your piece. Such ‘imperfections’ are your assurance that you have true leather hide. Leather is highly resilient and over time develops a patina that increasingly enhances its appeal. Also keep in mind, grain patterns and colouring of leather will vary from hide to hide and within the same hide, making leather all the more interesting and unique.

Some medications and cancer treatments can cause damage to leather through perspiration. Some medications specify this, if unsure consult your health care professional. Chemicals and oils, including hairspray and hair products, can also cause damage to leather. Avoid spraying household cleaners near leather. It is highly recommended to not let your pets on leather lounge suites as perspiration and body fluids will damage the leather and invalidate your warranty.

Only use recommended leather cleaners and test in an obscure area first. Avoid abrasives, harsh chemicals, saddle soap, leather cleaners that contain any oils, soaps or detergents, or common household cleaners on leather furniture. Aniline and Nubuk leathers require particular care, as they lack a protective coating. Only use products specifically designed for these types of finishes and follow instructions carefully. Improper cleaning may void your leather furniture warranty. Contact a leather cleaning specialist straight away for spills and marks that cannot be removed.

    Fabric Care Tips

To maintain the appearance and condition of your fabric, it is useful to develop a regular maintenance routine.

    Do:

    • Treat spills and stains as soon as possible.
    • Gently scrape any soil from the surface of the fabric without scrubbing.
    • Apply recommended cleaning products strictly according to instructions.
    • Consider an annual professional clean to keep your upholstered furniture looking its best.

    Do not:

    • Saturate fabric with water or other cleaning liquids.
    • Machine wash cushion covers unless confirmed the covers are machine washable

Pilling is a normal occurrence for some fabrics and does not affect the durability or functionality of the fabric. It is important to note that pilling is not a fabric defect or fault and will reduce once the excess fibres are removed which can be done with a battery-operated pilling tool.

The surface of any fabric will wear; however this should not be taken as an indication that material is worn out.

    Recliner Care Tips

When your recliner arrives, you may need to cut the cable ties from underneath to release the mechanism. Furniture with working mechanisms will require enough clearance room both in front of and behind to extend fully. As the recliner contains moving parts, slight noises may be audible when the recliner is operating. When sitting on a recliner you should try to sit in the centre of the seat, otherwise excess pressure can be put onto the frame or mechanism causing damage. Do not sit on the footrest when raised. There will be a gap in the seats to allow for the free movement of the mechanism. This is normal and will reduce wear in these areas.

Manual Recliners: Release as per instructions relevant to your design. To close, use two legs pushed in the centre of the footrest to a fully upright position.

Electric Recliners: Plug in the lead from the transformer unit ensuring the cable is not routed where it can become trapped by the mechanism. To recline, press and hold the open button. To return the back to the upright position and close the footrest, simply press and hold the close button.

Do not place the furniture, cables or transformer:

    • Underneath or too close to other objects of furniture because of moving parts
    • In or near an area which is, or may become, wet or damp
    • Near open fires, heaters, gas or electrical appliances

Never dismantle the motor or transformer.

Do not attempt to exit the chair/sofa whilst in the reclined position, wait until the chair/sofa is fully closed.

Do not leave devices or leads plugged into USB ports when unattended and only use authorised charging devices.

  • Warranty

Our products are covered for residential use.  This product is covered by the following warranty periods:

    Frame: 15 years

    Foam (*): 5 years

    Covering (**): 3 years

    Mechanisms: 3 years

Workmanship & other components: 3 years

    * Loss of foam resiliency should not be confused with softening of foam or stretched cover, which are results from normal use.  Softening, or settling, of foam is to be expected over time.

** The warranty does not include stretching of leather or fabric; this is normal and a result of normal use.  Exposure of leather and fabric to sunlight or extreme light sources will cause fading and damage and is not covered by the warranty.

Warranty covers breakage or failure due to materials or manufacturing defect.  Failure from, but not limited to, misuse, unauthorised repair, general wear and tear, or natural characteristics of materials used are excluded from warranty cover.

Please refer to product Care & Maintenance for information on the characteristics of materials and guidance on how to care for your product.

This warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the furniture with proof of purchase.
